Dr Martin Wade

Consultant Dermatologist & Medical Director

Dr Martin Wade BMed Sci, MB BS, FACD is a Consultant Dermatologist and Medical Director of London Real Skin. An Australian-trained dermatologist with extensive experience in medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology, he brings a specialist, evidence-based approach to the assessment and treatment of skin, hair and scalp concerns.

Dr Wade trained in Australia at the University of Tasmania before undertaking dermatological research at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. He subsequently completed the four-year Australasian College of Dermatology specialist training programme, including a year as Specialist Registrar at the internationally renowned St John’s Institute of Dermatology in London. He is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists and is registered with the General Medical Council on the Specialist Register for Dermatology.

His clinical expertise encompasses the full spectrum of dermatology, with particular interests in hair loss and scalp disorders, acne, skin cancer and general skin health. He has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of skin cancer following his work within major Australian melanoma units, as well as treating a wide range of inflammatory and common skin conditions.

Alongside his medical dermatology practice, Dr Wade has developed a particular interest in cosmetic and aesthetic dermatology, with a philosophy centred on improving skin health and quality while maintaining natural-looking results. He believes that effective aesthetic treatment starts with a proper understanding of the skin: its condition, structure, underlying concerns and individual response to treatment.

A dermatological approach to aesthetic skin treatment

At London Real Skin, Dr Wade combines his specialist dermatology knowledge with an interest in the latest advances in aesthetic medicine and technology. His approach is deliberately personalised rather than one-size-fits-all, with treatments selected according to the patient’s skin, concerns, objectives and tolerance for downtime.

As Medical Director, Dr Wade has carefully selected the clinic’s treatment technologies following consideration of their clinical evidence, efficacy and safety. He works closely with the clinic’s highly trained aesthetic doctors, practitioners and nurses to ensure that treatment plans are clinically appropriate and delivered to a high standard.

His particular interest in device-led dermatology includes technologies that stimulate collagen, improve skin texture and address pigmentation, scarring, redness and the visible effects of ageing. These include microneedling, radiofrequency (RF) microneedling, laser and light-based treatments.

Microneedling and advanced RF microneedling can be particularly valuable in the treatment of acne scarring, enlarged pores, uneven texture and early skin laxity. London Real Skin offers advanced platforms including SkinXcell and EXION RF microneedling, allowing treatment parameters to be tailored to the individual and the area being treated.

Dr Wade also has a strong interest in the role of laser and light-based technologies in modern dermatology. At London Real Skin, technologies including Sciton BBL and Moxi and Dermalux Triwave form part of a broader dermatology-led approach to concerns such as pigmentation, photoageing, redness, acne and uneven skin tone.

For patients with concerns such as acne scarring, treatment may involve combining different technologies rather than relying on a single procedure. Depending on the type and severity of scarring, treatment options can include laser resurfacing, RF microneedling and other complementary approaches, with the treatment plan tailored to the individual’s skin and goals.

Evidence-led, personalised and natural

Dr Wade’s philosophy is that aesthetic dermatology should retain the same clinical principles as medical dermatology: careful assessment, patient safety, evidence-based treatment selection and realistic expectations.

Rather than pursuing dramatic or artificial change, his aim is to help patients achieve healthier, stronger and better-quality skin, with results that look natural and complement the individual.

Through London Real Skin’s dermatology-led model, Dr Wade brings together specialist medical expertise, advanced technology and personalised treatment planning to help patients achieve long-term improvements in their skin health and confidence.

Dr Wade is a member of the British Association of Dermatologists and the Royal Society of Medicine, a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists, an International Member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and a member of the British Hair and Nail Society. He regularly attends leading international dermatology conferences and continues to keep abreast of developments in research, technology and treatment techniques.
